Model Update: CX-5

Subtle changes have been made to the exterior, interior and engine line-up of Mazda’s 2015 model compact SUV, the CX-5. Exterior changes include a bolder Kodo-style grille, 19-inch alloys, and (on Individual and Akera models), new-gen adaptive autolevelling LED headlights. The interiorm has been sharpened, and now includes the MZD Connect infotainment system for internet radio streaming.

Satnav is standard on top models or an option on the Active and Dynamic grades, while an electronic parking brake replaces the conventional handbrake. On the safety front, apart from six airbags, ABS and stability and traction control, a new feature is Lane Keep Assist, operative above 65km/h.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine has more power and torque, at 121kW/210Nm for a fuel index of 6.4l/100km; the 2.5-litre petrol is unchanged at 141kW/256Nm for 7.4l/100km. Diesels with two different outputs from 2.2-litres have been introduced: a 110kW/380Nm version for the DE Active FWD model, and the higher 129kW/420Nm option for the 4WD Akera model, both rated at 5.7l/100km. Pricing is from R329 300 to R465 400, and includes a 3-year service plan and unlimited kilometre warranty.
