Isuzu has made just enough changes to the new-look KB to make it a must-have on the nation’s Christmas wish-list.
The 2016 KB is essentially a facelifted version of the sixth generation Isuzu KB, involving a slightly reworked bonnet, new tailgate styling (double- and extended cabs only), and revised instrument cluster, radiator grille and fog lamps. Giving you more bang for your buck, the updated LE and LX grades now come standard with a tow bar, sports bar, roof rails and poweradjustable leather seats, yet still undercut on price (by about R10k) the equivalent offerings from Ford and Toyota.
The rear suspension on all models has also been tweaked to allow for a smoother ride, via revised rebound control on the rear dampers on 4×4 models, while the 4×2 models have also benefited from revised front dampers.
Apart from these changes, ride comfort remains much the same. As does the well-tested 3.0-litre D-TEC engine, which retains its 130kW and 380Nm outputs (and its fuel claim of 7.9 litres/100km).

At the launch, the 300 proved ample when tackling dunes in the Namibian desert, although a little extra power might have been nice when facing the larger sand monsters.
In addition to the above changes, LX models sport stylish new 18-inch alloy wheels, new headlamps with projector and integrated LED daytime running lights, a rear-view camera now integrated in the tailgate handle, and, for the first time in a KB, a touch screen infotainment system with satellite navigation, internet, WiFi, and smartphone integration. Also new is a keyless entry system with Start/Stop ignition button.
All things considered, the new KB is a neat little improvement on its predecessor. Though mostly left unchanged, the new KB does polish a reliable package. A 5-year/90 000km service plan remains standard issue.
