As the owner of a 1989 pick up, the latest SA 4x4 has a very interesting discussion about cruisers. I think many things have gone wrong at Toyota recently; the strange boxy new pick up, the front wheel track seems much wider than the rear. Can anyone tell me if there's any advantage to the track difference between front and rear..
I think the boxy shape suits the 70SW, wish it had a 3.0D4D engine though. The 4.2 engine is overkill.
As for the LC200...It has to be the weirdest, ugliest thing around.

I do like the new "box" look of the new LC70SW, but the normally aspirated extremely old spec diesel engine is a shocker! At least the 3.0 D-4D would be an upgrade!
Why don't we get the option of the V8 Turbo diesel that the LC70 comes with in Australia? Most people who buy one of these fantastic off-road 4x4's tows, be it a heavy 4x4 trailer kitted to the hilt or a caravan... I'm sure the South African buyer would love the extra torque the V8 diesel has! I know I would want it, even keep the current straight 6 non-turbo diesel as a cheaper option.
The different track (front axle -vs- rear axle0 does seem strange, I hope Toyota fixes that!
Toyota won't fix the front track width as it has been invented to host the larger V8 in other markets. It just shows that Toyota has used the old chassis to adapt for the "new" LC70 - shortcuts don't always pay out.
