Just over 6 weeks to go until the 18th Grootbrak Grabadoo! The Grootbrak Grabadoo will take place over 2 days this year. GROOT, mense! On Wednesday, 30 December people can enjoy the 4.8km. The cycle race will take place on Thursday 31st of December. The 2019 event drew over 1600 cyclists, runners, and walkers. 64% of participants came from outside the Western Cape and add an estimate of over R100 000 to the economy of Great Brak.
Unless COVID 19 regulations towards outdoor events change, participation will be limited to 500 participants per day.
The event offers sponsorship partners an ideal opportunity to reach an affluent target market while raising much-needed funds for local beneficiaries. “Mossel Bay Tourism is very appreciative of private initiatives and events that draw feet and Tourism income into an area. Events like the Grootbrak Grabadoo showcase a town and its treasures. A value cannot be placed on this type of word of mouth marketing generated during such an event. Return on investments like these comes in many forms and Mossel Bay Tourism is dedicated to the ongoing development of our rural municipal areas,” says Aneli Gerber, the Chief Operations Officer.
The Grootbrak Grabadoo is one of the biggest cycling events in the area and the perfect way to say goodbye to the old year. Runners, walkers, families and even pets can participate in the most beautiful walk in the Garden Route, South Africa, around the Great Brak River in a 4.8 km route. Mountain bikers can choose from 4 exciting routes which includes some wonderful twists and turns in the forest – 15 km, 36 km, 53 km, and 69 km.
Vodacom is again the premier partner for this year’s event. SPAR De Dekke is onboard again with Mossel Bay Tourism who will man waterpoints.
Frontier Medix’s team will be in attendance throughout the race. “We will have a fully equipped medical tent at the start/finish on the sports grounds in the village, with stretchers, equipment & resus ready” said Jacques Lourens.
The main beneficiary of this event will again be Mayflower Cricket Club & CAWS 4 PAWS. Members of the Mayflower Cricket club also contribute their energy and time to the event. “The club regards itself as a critical enabler to further the game and to promote development of cricket at grassroots level. In addition, the club endeavours to promote social cohesion within the communities, ensuring a positive community spirit.”
