It’s been raining on and off this morning but the trail seemed ok. Going up the mountain was smooth sailing but coming down was a whole different ball game… Be a Blessing, like many things in life, started quite by accident but has since become an event that happens each quarter of the year. I had some guys from the Kyamandi Township pestering me to take them out on a trail to “see what the 4×4 can do”.
In talking to my dad we decided to arrange a day at a 4×4 trail just outside of Paarl. We took two of my colleges, who were reaching out to the Kyamandi school and four learners out for the day. The trail started off quite quiet but got more challenging as we went along. Photos were taken at every obstacle. We stopped for lunch, drove the practice area and headed home. This turned out to be such a life changing experience for them that we decided to do it again… and again… and have just completed the 14th event where it was raining and the trail became a bit more challenging than what we anticipated.
The objective of Be a Blessing 4X4 Club, Western Cape is to give mentors a different setting in which they can get to know those whom they are reaching out to and is focused on less fortunate children who, in some cases has never left the area where they grew up in. I’m not sure who benefits more from each event, the drivers, the mentors or the children but what I know is that everyone walks away from it changed! Be a Blessing is made possible by sponsors, including the drivers, without whom this will not be possible. Be a Blessing has no limits and who knows where it will go… The goal would be to touch as many children’s lives as is possible.
