The Hilux is an institution, making its debut in 1968. 52 years later and in its 8th generation, the current version was designed to be tougher, but also easier to live with. According to Toyota, they want to offer high levels of durability, with lots of interior space, improved ergonomics, the ride comfort of a passenger vehicle with the convenience of an SUV and the practicality of a bakkie.   Hilux – Brand Fanatic video Hilux offroad trail review   It is no secret South Africans love bakkies. Farmers, contractors and families have been buying Hilux’s like hotcakes due to

Launched in 2005, the Toyota Fortuner was well received thanks to its practicality and comfort compared to a bakkie, infamous Toyota reliability and parts availability. It suffered a bit from feeling too similar to the Hilux on which it is based and a lack of stability control made rollovers a real threat. Now in its third generation, the Fortuner has been majorly redesigned and is available with one petrol and two diesel engines.   Toyota Fortuner Brand Fanatic Toyota Fortuner

It is a Satellite Communicator with two way communications with built-in GPS technology. In my words; a SOS rescue beacon, a communicator that works using GPS signal (for positioning) and communications (text only) working off the well-established Iridium Communication Satellite Network providing worldwide coverage. The INREACH MINI is one of four devices in the series. The other three being the INREACH EXPLORER+, the Garmin GPSMAP 66i and the Garmin GPSMAP 86i (the marine

Being thorough as I am, I decide to compare what I know to the infinite wisdom of Google, and confidently typed in “How to Choose a Tent for Camping in Africa”. Pages and pages of info comes up. All incredibly helpful and insightful – if you’re going to a caravan park on the south coast where your biggest issue is whether you have enough space to play ‘snakes and ladders’ should it rain, and whether the tent is waterproof. If I had been Joe Soap Newbie, I would have been completely taken in – rather fancying the somewhat startling array

There are few people who touch our lives only briefly but still leave a lasting impression. Far-sighted entrepreneur and avid adventurer, Adolf Waidelich, who died tragically by suicide in November 2017, was one of those people. His passing left a legacy which can be measured by the impact he made on the lives of others. He was very practical engineer who, with his comprehensive range of innovative equipment and accessories designed and made for off -road travellers, contributed materially to making dreams of travelling to far-flung parts of Africa a reality for thousands of people. But Adolf was also a

Born out of a deep love for engineering and thousands of kilometres’ worth of off-road experience, RATAU Hard Canopies has emerged as one of Mpumalanga’s premier vehicle metalwork manufacturers. Operating out of Middelburg, the company is directed by Quereshini Naidoo, Gerhard Holtshauzen and Herman Brümmer. They manage a team of 10 multi-skilled workshop staff, as well as four administrators who handle everything from sales to marketing. Where did it all begin? Several years ago, says Naidoo, the company’s founders, mechanical engineers and avid 4×4 enthusiasts, decided to turn their hobby of designing and custom-making canopies for their own vehicles into
