Lending audacious design with unwavering off-road prowess, the new Isuzu D-MAX Arctic AT35 emerges as the second iteration of Isuzu’s coveted ultimate double cab bakkie. Crafted in collaboration with Arctic Trucks, renowned for their elite overlanding vehicles, the D-MAX Arctic AT35 proudly rolls off the assembly line at Isuzu Motors South Africa in Struandale, Gqeberha. This exceptional offering is exclusively available via special order through Isuzu’s local dealer network, ensuring its rarity and distinction.
Kevin Fouche, Department Executive at Isuzu Motors South Africa, states, “The inaugural D-MAX Arctic AT35, introduced in 2019, swiftly gained recognition as one of the most rugged and capable 4×4 bakkies on the market.” Fouche highlights that the new D-MAX Arctic AT35 carries forward this reputation into the seventh-generation D-MAX range, exuding even bolder and more robust styling that confidently signifies its capability to conquer challenging terrains.
As the pinnacle model in the D-MAX lineup, the AT35 caters to those seeking standout performance and a taste for adventure, according to Fouche.
Indigenous Craftsmanship in Gqeberha
Exclusive to Isuzu’s Struandale facility, the D-MAX AT35 is the sole model endorsed by Arctic Trucks for production. The AT35, built on the D-MAX V-Cross 4×4 platform, adheres to Isuzu’s stringent quality standards and is assembled alongside standard D-MAX models.
Unique design elements are meticulously integrated in a dedicated Arctic Trucks conversion area, where adept artisans create expanded wheel wells and arches for the imposing 35-inch tires and fortified suspension.
After coating and painting, the vehicle seamlessly integrates into the D-MAX assembly line, where components like a specially designed suspension lift kit and Bilstein dampers are added, conferring remarkable off-road capabilities. The final transformation includes off-line installation of larger wheel arch moldings, cementing the AT35’s dedication to serious off-road exploration. Like standard models, the AT35 undergoes rigorous quality checks before shipping, and it enjoys the same warranty and service plan.
Sturdy Design and Unparalleled Performance
The D-MAX Arctic AT35’s rugged exterior perfectly complements its robust underpinnings. With pronounced wheel arch extensions, heightened ride elevation, and a wider track, it stands distinctly apart from standard bakkies.
The model’s exclusivity is evident in features like AT35 chrome badges, broader side steps for easier access, and Arctic Trucks mudflaps. These elements are matched with commanding 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires on distinct 17×10-inch AT black alloy wheels. A standard 18-inch spare wheel and a ResQ Puncture Repair Kit enhance convenience.
Beneath the surface, a tailored suspension system raises ground clearance from 232 mm to 266 mm and height from 1,810 mm to 1,875 mm, enhanced by sturdy Bilstein dampers for balanced on-road stability and off-road performance.
Retaining the D-MAX’s proven four-wheel drive system, the AT35 offers two-wheel drive for roads and four-wheel drive high and low-range options for off-roading. An advanced actuator design ensures swift engagement in 0.61 seconds, and drivers can activate the electronic rear differential lock for demanding terrains.
Powered by Isuzu’s 3.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque, the AT35 also boasts the latest six-speed automatic transmission for improved shifts and efficiency.
Elevated Luxury and Advanced Safety
Built on the V-Cross model’s excellence, the AT35 offers top-tier safety, luxury, and technology. Embroidered AT35 logos adorn leather-trimmed seats, echoed on gearshift shrouds and floor mats.
Luxury features include piano black interior finishes, leather trim, eight-way electric driver’s seat adjustment, a multi-display digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless smartphone charging.
An array of advanced driver assistance features includes Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Emergency Lane Keeping.
