I fully support making the Forum available on e.g. Tapatalk. The benefit is that a smartphone/tablet is always way more available than a PC/laptop and this is one of the core contributors to the success of a Forum – the fact that members can post immediately and interactive wherever they are.

This is definitely the right thing to do.

The forum will get far more exposure and participation if the user have the facility to communicate via an app. Not sure what (if any) cost for Tapatalk. This is the biggest app for forums, and the costs can probably be absorbed by the ads on the desktop platform. I for one spend about 2 – 3 hours on my tablet yesterday reading and commenting on Tapatalk. No costs to the forum owner to activate your forum. If you however want a Branded program “SA 4×4” then it is $69 per month (R690 at current rate) All you need is a IOS Developer account and Google play developer Account.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and all the info, gents. Not sure how we got from “keeping it in mind” and “not in the immediate future” to it suddenly being “on the road map”. There are always pros and cons to integrating with third-party applications, and we will cross that bridge if and when we get to it. Please bear in mind that as a magazine our primary objective is delivering high-quality content in our articles. The fact that we have introduced a forum is in itself a value-add to our readership rather than a primary focus (not to diminish its value, of course, but just to help you understand what our primary objectives are).

All that said, we welcome your continued input and suggestions, and trust that you enjoy the reading the mag!

Hi SA4x4 admin – the question around “being on the road map” arose from my IT Project Management back ground. I am not attempting to put pressure on you guys – I was just asking if there is still a possibility to have it available somewhere down the line? “On the Road Map” are widely used terminology in my world.

I believe that we have two topics here of completely different nature. Delivering a quality magazine is obviously your core business and the Forum is indeed value add to us as readers. However, I am involved in a number of other Forums – even administering one of these – and one little secret to ensure user participation is to be making it available as widely/easily as possible. A mobile based application will definitely supports this.
