There was a letter in your December 2017 magazine from Willy Pittner which alleged that Tesla electric vehicles required 75 Amp charging service. This seemed inordinately high and would mean that electric vehicles would be completely impractical. I sent the magazine article to Elon Musk CEO of Tesla and this in short is his reply:
No, this is definitely not true. A Tesla can be charged from as little as a 1.8kW outlet (110V at ~17A). Recommended home charge rate is around 9 or 10 kW (~240V at ~40A).
This can be adjusted easily from the car screen and you can set time of day to charge, so charging is done at night when home electricity load is low and rates are often lower.
