I have a question for all those Ford fans out there. Ford F250 4×4 single- and double-cab bakkies with the 4.2-litre turbodiesel motors were imported into SA by FMSA during the 2005 to 2008 period.

One doesn’t get to hear or see much of these vehicles in articles in SA 4×4, or other publications either, for that matter; and I was wondering whether you or other readers who have any knowledge or experience of these vehicles can shed some light on what they are like.

Are they reliable and tough? What is the diesel motor like? And what are the typical pros and cons of these vehicles?

    I own a 2005 F250,

This 1 has taught me a lot of lessons with impulse buying, it was sold to me with problems that were not mentioned and after taking ownership of it and driving back to Cape Town from Welkom the engine overheated resulting in cracked gasket and head (which my mechanics says were already blown) blocked thermostats x2 , radiator , no oil cooler, the list goes on.

This is when I found out that Ford SA have stopped supplying spares/parts for F250 trucks, eish. In fact Ford are so useless none of them want to work on these vehicles, when i have tried booking it in for a service i get told that the guy who knew the vehicle has left the company, they don’t want to touch it.

I found a head off a farmer that stuck a 7lt V8 in his F250 and had the old 4.2 mwm engine on the floor of his garage.

I finally got it running and have since replaced all the pipes and hoses with silicone pipes (old pipes and hoses were breaking and leaking I think from the over heating) redone the aircon, injectors, cameras front and back for parking, handbrake, installed compressor with 10lt airtank, little black box LR early warning alarm system and just had it dyno tuned with KSD, its now pushing 156kw with 546 nm torque.

You need a code 10 to drive it and it’s a truck so it must go through roadworthy every year.
