I would like to plan a trip to Richtersveld this September when its nice and quite. I have been speaking to various 4×4 folk and just listening to what they have to say. I have been left slightly undecided from everything I hear. I would like to clarify certain points. Firstly most people who have been have suggested going in a convey of more than two vehicles?

Would it be ok with just one vehicle even if  I took a spare tyre etc.

Richtersveld is absolutely awesome! Highly recommended.

Having two vehicles is always better than one especially when you are going to somewhere quite secluded and at a quite time of year.

    Spare Tyre is definitely recommended.

We also went in September. Not easy to find like minded campers to fit MY schedule.

We went alone, my Jeep Wrangler, just done 30 000Km. Had full confidence in the car. We towed my own designed off-road camper trailer (loaded 1100Kg), only had the 8 wheels (not all same size!), carried 25l petrol and the water tank had 80l water.

Got to Potjiespram Camp on the 5th night – it is a looong trip. We had an awesome trip, only saw 2 cars in the 6 days in the park.

The trick to this rocky part of the world is – there is no race. the first day from Potjiespram to Richtersberg Camp is only 62 odd Km, took us 5½ hours.

BTW, we live in Kloof, KZN, did 4 400 Km in all.
