SPARE WHEEL CARRIER ATTACHED TO A TOWBAR.

I like to find out if there is any truth in the fact that the spare wheel carrier can affect the vehicle’s weight as to towing a caravan attached to the vehicle.

I had a towbar made up for the Mahindra Bolero Double cab 2.5 diesel, it has 5 attachment points of 10 mm steel plates to the undercarriage of the vehicle the towbar is capable to tow 3 tons. (The 2 bumper points, the 2 undercarriage points and the central connecting point between the bumpers on the undercarriage of the vehicle.)

The agents (salesmen) had fitted a lightweight one which snapped at the tree points with a heavy caravan I had been towing on the long trip from KZN to Capetown and back to KZN

I want it to be fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle as I have removed it from under the vehicle and placed it in the back inside the canopy (loosely).

The space is cramped with the tyre laying in the back and with the two Jerry can fitment the space is even more cramped, that is why I need to know if the spare wheel carrier will affect the weight of the towbar on the vehicle. I am towing a Jurgens Fleetline (road) caravan (CARAVAN GVM/BVM 1390kg) and need the space to pack my other camping equipment in the back of my vehicle. (VEHICLE GVM/BVM 2800kg)
