I was with a CBM company in Botswana for eight years. One day, on my way from Mahalapye, I came across these guys in Kalamare, near Mahalapye on the way to Moiyabana. The odometer on their Hilux was not working, but showed more than 500 000km on the clock. The vehicle is used as their daily runner to town from the cattle post. It still starts, and the 4×4 was working.
Deep in the Kalahari and sandveld, these old Hiluxes are still king. As long as a headlamp and a registration plate are there, the cops are happy.
