Good afternoon
I need to toss a massive boulder into a bush:
What happened to ‘real’ 4×4’s?
I mean: we have five landies (TD5 and 2.2 Defenders) and a Cruiser as a farm vehicle. in the last year, the following broke:
TD 5’s: electronics and sensors x4, fuel pumps and float levels x2, radiator hoses x2. All these vehicles have less than 150 000km on
2.2 Defenders: electronics x2, diff x2, kingpin and bearings x2, hoses x4, strater relays x2. These only have 50 000-60 000 on
Cruiser: electronics x1, steering ball joints x1
My 33-year-old Isuzu Trooper, a service thank you!
All of the electronic faults left us stranded. The mechanical faults would have been an inconvenience, but would not have left us in the bush.
Now for the boulder: who makes a bare-bones, easily fixable vehicle without electronic wizardry for ‘real’ off road and touring use? Thinking along the lines of the 60 series Land Cruiser, Landrover Series, Isuzu trooper, Hilux SFA ext. Does such a beast still exist? Am I missing the point?
Just asking!
