Q & A

Are there any unique design and special features you can tell us about? The trailer is a true monocoque design. The advantages are a lower centre of gravity which increases safety and tow stability – it also provides more pack volume per kg of trailer than any other brand on the market. Metalian uses 3CR12 steel in the trailer body construction for increased corrosion and strength. Stainless steel door locking mechanism is single operation, robust and lockable with padlocks.

What construction methods are used in your trailer? The trailer is CAD designed and CNC punched and bent. Assembly holes are round 7mm and initially bolted together with interspaced rose welds (far superior to spot-welding). In some more critical areas, material is peened over each other along the entire length of the join. The entire body is then seam-sealed and powder-coated at 180 degrees C. After 10 years of off-roading through Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas, Metalian has yet to suffer a single failure anywhere on the monocoque body construction.

What axle and suspension types are utilized on your trailer? Our standard axle is a 1.6 ton KNOTT braked axle with a track width of 1 600mm and a hub PCD of 6/139.7. We can upgrade the axle to either 1.8 ton or 2.5 ton. Suspension consists of 8-blade leaf springs with a load capacity of 2 000kg and Gabriel Safari shock absorbers. Alternative double-eye leaf-springs with an overload blade is also available.

What sets your trailers apart from the rest? Taking first prize in the National Australian “Camper Trailer of the Year Competition” for 2019 speaks for itself. This was in the $30 000 to $45 000 category. Simply put, you get more trailer for your money, in a design that is uncomplicated and easy to customise. The durability and user’s appreciation of our build is what maintains the value years after the initial purchase. Many of our earlier trailers have sold for more than the original purchase price.
