Downsized Diesel

Undercutting the older 2.0 CRDI in both price and capacity, the new 1.7-litre turbodiesel from Hyundai places value and economy as top priorities. With just 85kW and 260Nm on tap, don’t expect the relatively weighty ix35 to be quick; but, for
daily duties, the smaller diesel will suffice. We averaged about 7 litres per 100km on our test route − which included gravel and poor-quality tar roads, as well as traffic and highway scenarios. A six-speed manual box sends power to the front wheels, achieving a top end of 173km/h and a 12.3 second sprint to 100km/h.
