Fiat is making moves into one of SA’s most competitive vehicle segments with the introduction of their Fullback.
The new range of 4×4 and 4x2s is the first local Italian foray into the bakkie segment, although most of the hardware is actually Japanese.
Fitting alongside the rest of the Fiat Professional range of commercial vehicles, the Fullback is based entirely on Mitsubishi’s new double-cab Triton, but uses the previous-generation Mitsubishi engines and gearboxes in a bid to bring down cost. These cost-saving measures will allow what Fiat describes as “extremely competitive” prices, undercutting an equivalent double-cab Hilux 4×4 2.8 GD-6 by over R72k.
